Celebrating 40 years with PLASA London

1st September 2017Jo RuddockAudio VisualNo Comments

The show will celebrate with over 100 industry figures giving talks, demos and workshops as part of over 60 hours of free content.

PLASA London returns to Olympia from 17-19 September, bringing with it an extensive seminar programme, key brands from the lighting, audio, AV and stage technology sectors and a number of firsts for 2017.

New for 2017 is the ‘Fast-Track’ theatre offering – a programme of short sessions aimed at improving attendees’ sales, marketing and social media skills, as well as looking at mental health in the workplace. Also making its debut this year is the Lighting Designers’ Showcase, in association with the Knight of Illumination Awards, which will display the spectacular work of the Awards nominees.

Also for 2017, the Exploratorium has been rebranded as the Genesis Lab, a space where participants show off their expertise in the form of an “experiment”. This year will see 16 Experiment Spaces, nearly twice as many as last year, creating space for simple, interactive, entertaining and educational experiments that prove a concept, demonstrate a principle and wow visitors with science.

When it comes to the seminar programme, sound designers Gareth Fry and Pete Malkin will discuss how they built a shifting world of sound on The Encounter, Simon McBurney’s solo performance, which traces National Geographic photographer Loren McIntyre’s journey into the depths of the Amazon rainforest; journalist Phil Ward will host 360 Degrees of Sound, looking at 3D audio and dealing with architects and consultants; and Jon Burton will offer his 10 Top Tips for Touring Engineers.

In the Lighting, Staging and Rigging Theatre Richard Pilbrow’s Theatre Projects at 60 – Session: Women Backstage… A New Theatre?, will look at the rise in women’s contribution to the world of theatre; during Video As Light, award-winning video designer Nina Dunn and guests will discuss the dynamic techniques for using video design to support theatrical Lighting; and Charcoal Blue’s Scott Stuart will take a look at Aerial Rigging and how to make it safe.

Brands confirmed at the 2017 show include Shure, Neutrik, Nexo and Adam Hall.

Awe Creative will be attending PLASA London. To arrange a meeting contact lee@beaconcreativeservices.com.
